Ten things that you probably didn't know about the stadium of Ipurua

We Review the information, curiosities and anecdotes of the stadium in which SD Eibar play its home games.

  • It was inaugurated on 14th September 1947 in a friendly game between home team and Elgóibar which ended 0-2.
  • Eulogio Echeverria was the player who scored the first time in the stadium.
  • In its beginnings the pitch didn't have grass. The grass arrived at the beginning of 1959.
  • In 1965 they played a commemorative game for the 25th anniversary against Girondins of Burdeos. In 1990 they celebrated the 50th anniversary of the club with a game against Ajax of Amsterdam and for the 75th anniversary they chose Celtic, of Glasgow.
  • Behind one of the stands is the 'ciudad deportiva', where the first team train and they play in the lower categories.
  • The east and west stands are known as 'la inglesa' (English) y 'la bombonera'.
  • The first match of its history in Liga BBVA ended in victory. It was the last season and the Eibar side won 1-0 at Real Sociedad.
  • Despite its small size, it doesn’t have the smallest pitch in Liga BBVA. With 103 x 65 metres, Ipurua is the second smallest pitch after Vallecas (100 x 65 metres).
  • It is the stadium with the smallest capacity of Liga BBVA, with 6,267 seats.
  • It is in the remodelling process with the Ipurua Tallarra project, which aims to improve its installations and also convert the stadium into a Centre of Innovation and Training in Sport.
