Spain draw again in Romania stalemate

Following on from Thursday's 1-1 draw in Italy, Vicente del Bosque's men were unable to go one better against Romania, as their EURO 2016 warm-up game ended goalless.

Spain claimed a 0-0 draw against Romania in Cluj in a fixture which marked their last before the announcement of the La Roja squad list for next summer's EURO 2016 tournament in France.

The hosts gave a very good account of themselves in a closely contested encounter in which they succeeded in making life very difficult for Vicente del Bosque's charges. The closest either side came to opening the scoring in the first half was when a fine Nicolae Stanciu strike was brilliantly palmed away by Iker Casillas.

After the break, Gerard Pique had a good chance to have broken the deadlock, but the hosts' goalkeeper was equal to his effort. In the second period, the Romanians - who will also take their place at EURO 2016 - applied increased pressure on the Spanish backline, as they continued to pose the visitors no end of problems. Cordoba CF's Romanian striker, Florin Andone, had a golden opportunity to have put his side ahead, but he sent his strike wide of the upright. Despite the numerous changes made by both teams, neither was able to find a goal, leaving Spain to look back on two draws from their two fixtures in March, after this result and Thursday's 1-1 stalemate with Italy in Udine.

Spain's preparations for EURO 2016 will resume with games against Bosnia and Herzegovina on 29 April, South Korea on 1 June and Georgia on 7 June, before the group stage in France where La Roja will face the Czech Republic, Turkey and Croatia.
