Sevilla FC once again took the name of the Liga BBVA to the greatest heights of European football by winning the 2014-15 UEFA Europa League.
The side from Seville, who already lifted the trophy last year, won 2-3 against FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in an exciting final that took place in Warsaw and was decided thanks to goals from Grzegorz Krychowiak and Carlos Bacca, the latter getting a brace. As such, the Andalusian side made history by becoming the first club to win the title four times. Also, the success means that that they will play in the group stages of the Champions League next year.
The team from Nervión did not have an easy ride, and they had to call upon the faith and fighting spirit that define them in order to defeat their opponents in the Polish capital. Although Sevilla tried to make dangerous attacks into the opponent’s area and dominated in the opening stages, it was Dnipro who struck first with a goal from Nikola Kalinić in the 7’ minute. The goal left the Sevilla fans with ice in their hearts, but Sevilla did not bow their heads at all and managed a comeback with two goals, coming from Krychowiak and Bacca between the 28' and 31' minute. However, unfortunately for the Andalusian side, Ruslan Rotan got an equaliser just before the break.
The intensity lowered slightly in the second half, as both sides tried to take advantage of their best weapons in order to tilt the balance of the game. With Éver Banega acting as the perfect stage director, it had to be Bacco who once again got to play the role of the hero in the 73' minute in order to make it 2-3 and unleash wild euphoria among the Sevilla bench. Dnipro tried to force added time with several attacks but the squad led by Unai Emery showed their solidity and ended up lifting the trophy.
