Early goal by Hernan

There was a lot at stake for Levante and Espanyol at the Ciutat de Valencia. The three points would offer a breath of fresh air to the eventual victors and the tension was palpable from the get-go. Both teams took to the pitch with their eyes on the prize and the first goal was not long in coming. Hernan Perez got on the end of a superb assist by Victor Sanchez in the 7th minute to make it 1-0 to the visitors.

Rossi hits back

Rather than drop their heads, Levante knew full well that they needed to level the scores and quickly. They reacted admirably and started to dominate possession, and the reward was the cancellation of the deficit. Giuseppe Rossi, the most in-form player in Rubi's side, netted the equaliser from a direct free-kick just 15 minutes after their opponents' opening goal.

Another set piece

Their second goal followed a similar script to the first, with Rubi's tactics rewarded once again. Rossi put another dangerous ball into the box for Carl Medjani to score Levante's second and complete a brilliant comeback. Il Bambino was theman who turned the tide.

Resistance

Levante held firm with the result in their favour despite the chances created by Espanyol. Constantin Galca's charges pushed hard for a draw and took control of the game, but the home defence were extremely well-organised and managed to tame the Catalan outfit. The game went on to end 2-1 and the three points remained at the Ciutat de Valencia.

Three precious points

Los Granotas added another three crucial points to their haul to keep their hopes of survival intact. The victory lifts Levante up a rung in the table and puts pressure on their direct rivals in the relegation battle, who will need to win this weekend if they want to stay up.
