UD Las Palmas are the new side in the Liga BBVA following their 2-0 win against R. Zaragoza in the promotion playoff. Roque Mesa and Sergio Araujo got the goals in the game played at the Estadio de Gran Canaria, and they were enough to seal a comeback following the 3-1 defeat in the first leg.

Las Palmas, who were in need of a comeback, took to the pitch with greater intensity, although they did not have too many chances in the opening stretch of the game. The first warning came from Jonathan Viera through a dead ball situation, and that woke up Zaragoza. Willian José, Jesús Vallejo and Albert Dorca could have put the Aragonese side ahead however Casto Espinosa and Juan Emmanuel Culio made last ditch clearances. Just when it seemed that the Aragonese side was improving, a goal came from Roque Mesa, with a powerful shot inside the area. The Canary Island side took control of the game again and Culio could have made it 2-0 with a great header that went wide. Finally, half time arrived with the score at 1-0.

After the restart, Las Palmas were once again the dominant force in the game. The Canary islanders began to really attack the goal of Yassine Bounou, who had a lot of work to do during the second half. Viera had the first opportunity, and later David García, who hit the crossbar, and Alfredo Ortuño had their chances. Finally, the goal to hand Las Palmas promotion arrived. Aythami Artiles got a touch at the back post and the ball went to Sergio Araujo, who scored at the goal mouth. Zaragoza made a last push in the dying minutes but it was Las Palmas who earned promotion.
