The Association of European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL) will be supporting the 2016 European Week of Sport campaign through a series of initiatives and activities held by its various member leagues.

The European Week of Sport is a European Commission project seeking to encourage sport and exercise across Europe. As official partners of the campaign, the European leagues endorse its principles and objectives, and support the promotion of participation in sport and physical activity.

The leagues will be pitching in to contribute to the European Commission's awareness-raising efforts through their communication platforms and their fan base. Leveraging the reach and popularity of the most successful leagues in the world, the EFPL will be helping to spread the campaign's key messages, such as the fact that sport not only offers numerous individual health benefits, but also brings people together and is beneficial to society as a whole.

LaLiga is delighted to be backing and actively joining in with the European Week for Sport campaign once again in 2016. LaLiga ambassador David Albelda will attend the European Week of Sport opening ceremony that is being organised by the High Council for Sport (CSD) in Madrid on Saturday. LaLiga4Sports will also have a marquee where videos of different sporting disciplines will be shown and some balls will be given away in a prize draw. Another LaLiga ambassador, Christian Karembeu, will be participating in the opening ceremony in Kosice, Slovakia.

LaLiga aims to help and promote participation in sport through initiatives such as this one and encourage people to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. "LaLiga wants to support this great initiative again this year. It's important that we keep promoting the benefits of sport, of which there are so many. It doesn't just have a positive effect on health, but it allows you to share values such as respect, tolerance and discipline," stated LaLiga president Javier Tebas.
