João Cancelo has returned to FC Barcelona to stay. The Portuguese player, who spent half a season on loan from Al Hilal Saudi FC, signed a permanent contract in the summer and could not have got the 2026/27 season off to a better start: a dream start for the team and a stunning goal against Real Racing that has been crowned the LALIGA EA SPORTS Goal of the Month for September.
In the 8th minute of the first half, Cancelo unleashed a powerful, curling right-footed shot that left Agirrezabala’s dive in vain. In his very first start of the season, the full-back played until the 78th minute and, upon being substituted, received a well-deserved ovation from the Spotify Camp Nou crowd.
This is the second time Cancelo has won the Goal of the Month award. During his previous spell at the club, he won it in September 2023 after scoring a stunning goal away at Real Betis. On that occasion, from the right wing, he feinted with his left foot to pull off a brilliant cut-inside move that left the defender in his wake, before firing in a shot across goal that the opposition goalkeeper was unable to save.
