FC Barcelona announced on Monday evening that Ernesto Valverde has been appointed as manager ahead of next season. His official presentation will be held on Thursday.
The former Athletic Club coach, who was born in Extremadura but grew up in the Basque Country, spent two seasons at the Camp Nou as a player in the late-1980s and now arrives in the Catalan capital after successful spells in both Spain and Greece.

Barcelona will be the fifth LaLiga Santander club that Valverde takes charge of. He began his managerial career at Athletic before taking the helm at Barça's cross-town rivals RCD Espanyol, Greek side Olympiakos FC, Villarreal CF, Valencia CF and, most recently, Athletic once again.
He left the San Mames outfit last week having coached the club in more games than any other manager in history and now replaces Luis Enrique, who leaves the Camp Nou dugout after a trophy-laden three-year spell.
