LALIGA EA SPORTS 2024/25 has come to an end. With the close of the season, it’s time to say goodbye to players, coaches, and key figures who are leaving their clubs. This year brought a series of emotional farewells, with heartfelt tributes and overwhelming support from fans who showed their appreciation for these legends of the game. Iconic names like Luka Modrić and Óscar De Marcos have played their final matches in LALIGA, leaving through the front door of Real Madrid and Athletic Club, respectively.
But these weren’t the only moving goodbyes. Coaches such as Carlo Ancelotti and Imanol Alguacil were honored by Real Madrid and Real Sociedad with the elegance and emotion befitting two men who have defined eras at their respective clubs.
Other prominent farewells include the departures of the captains of Villarreal CF and Valencia CF, Raúl Albiol and Jaume Doménech. Both players left their clubs with full honors, receiving the affection and admiration of their fanbases for their unwavering commitment and contribution to their teams.
Real Madrid bids farewell to its title kings: Luka Modrić and Carlo Ancelotti
On the final matchday at the Santiago Bernabéu against Real Sociedad, Real Madrid paid tribute to two of the most influential figures in its storied history. Midfield maestro Luka Modrić leaves the club with 28 titles over 13 seasons, including 6 UEFA Champions League trophies, 4 LALIGA titles, 2 Copa del Rey trophies, 5 Spanish Super Cups, and 5 FIFA Club World Cups.
Carlo Ancelotti, the most decorated coach in Real Madrid history, leaves behind a legacy of 250 victories: 162 in LALIGA, 53 in the Champions League, 22 in the Copa del Rey, 5 in the Spanish Super Cup, 5 in the Club World Cup, and 3 in the UEFA Super Cup. His trophy haul includes 3 Champions Leagues, 3 Club World Cups, 3 UEFA Super Cups, 2 LALIGA titles, 2 Copa del Rey trophies, and 2 Spanish Super Cups.
De Marcos departs Athletic Club as the club’s second-most capped player
Athletic Club says goodbye to its great captain. Óscar De Marcos hangs up his boots after an illustrious 16-year career at the Basque club, making 573 official appearances—second only to club legend Txopo Iribar. The right-back from Laguardia bows out with two Spanish Super Cups and the long-awaited Copa del Rey title won in 2024 at La Cartuja.
Real Sociedad honors Imanol Alguacil
The txuri-urdin side parts ways with its leader and guiding light of the last six and a half seasons. Alguacil’s tenure has been historic, highlighted by a Copa del Rey title in 2020 against eternal rivals Athletic Club and five consecutive qualifications for European competition. Believing it best for both parties, Alguacil stepped down after 339 official matches, with a record of 158 wins, 83 draws, and 98 losses.
Raúl Albiol and Jaume Doménech say goodbye with the love of Villarreal CF and Valencia CF
Raúl Albiol, captain and defensive anchor of Villarreal CF in recent years, has ended his distinguished spell with the Submarino Amarillo. The centre-back played 201 official matches, leading the team to UEFA Europa League glory in 2021 and a stunning run to the Champions League semi-finals the following season.
Finally, Valencia CF bid a heartfelt farewell to lifelong club man Jaume Doménech. While his playing time diminished in recent years, the goalkeeper remained an essential figure within the squad. After ten seasons, he closes the chapter on his career at Mestalla, showered with love and gratitude from teammates and fans alike.
