Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are widely considered to be the best strikers in the world. Both players ply their trade in Spain, and according to quality, statistics and goals, the Liga BBVA is currently the top scoring league in the entire continent. Other leagues such as the Premier League, Serie A, the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 are a step behind the Spanish league as far as the number one ingredient of football is concerned: goals.
La Liga is also the European league with the most competitive title race, where the two top teams, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, are still fighting for the championship, separated by just two points, and the Spanish top flight is also the most efficient when it comes to scoring goals. With a total of 910 goals, the 900th being scored by RCD Espanyol player Héctor Moreno on Sunday against Rayo Vallecano de Madrid, the Spanish league overtakes the others by at least 20 goals. The Premier League has witnessed 889 goals and the Serie A 869, while Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga accumulate 854 and 774 respectively.

Meanwhile, on an individual level, the Spanish teams are also more deadly than their European competitors. Barcelona and Real Madrid have scored a combined 210 goals (105 each), a quite astonishing figure. Paris Saint-Germain, with 72 goals, Bayern Munich and Manchester City, both on 71 goals, and Juventus with 64 are the top scoring clubs in the other top leagues. These figures definitely show the different between Spain’s leading lights and the other top sides in Europe.
In fact, Luis Enrique’s men and the side in the capital are also the leading goal scorers in all of Europe, and home and away, respectively. Barcelona, with 60 goals scored at the Camp Nou are the European side with the most home goals scored. The second highest scoring side in Europe are Bayern, with 44 goals, 16 fewer than their upcoming opponents in the UEFA Champions League. In turn, Ancelotti’s men are the most lethal side away from the Bernabéu, having scored 47 goals. They also have a big lead over the second placed side in this ranking, Chelsea FC, who have a total of 37.
Not only Real Madrid and Valencia contribute goals, as teams such as the current Liga BBVA champions, Atlético Madrid and Sevilla FC, with 65 goals, overtake the champions of the Serie A, Juventus, who have scored 64 goals so far. Meanwhile, Valencia CF, who have also scored 64 goals, have got more goals than the 3rd placed side in the Premier League, Arsenal FC (63) and the second placed side in Serie A, AS Roma (48).
All things considered, not only Real Madrid and Barcelona make the Liga BBVA the top goal scoring and close-run league in all of Europe. Spanish sides hoping to qualify for the continent’s most important tournament, the UEFA Champions League currently must surpass the cut-off point of 72 points. In this regard, there is a difference of seven points with the Premier League and Ligue 1. These statistics in themselves say a lot about the current level and power of the Liga BBVA.
