The match on 29 December at the Vicente Calderón continues to gain support. Most recently it was the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) that decided to contribute to the Champions for Life initiative with a financial donation aimed at fighting the ebola epidemic in Africa.
The president Michel Platini sent a letter from Nyon to LFP president Javier Tebas, informing him of UEFA’s decision and offering his compliments. "It’s an excellent initiative. We hope that the financial contribution from the institution that I am honoured to preside over can help you in your plans to fill an aeroplane with medications for Africa".
UEFA also offered its support in all of its channels of communication to promote the game, "in order to ensure maximum visibility for the event".
Michel Platini apoligised for being unable to attend on 29 December in Madrid due to other commitments, but he repeated his praise "for this wonderful initiative. I wish you all the best organising this charity match".
