The past month of Liga Adelante action delivered moments to live long in the memory, unbeatable star showings and fantastic goals. The excellent campaigns being enjoyed by clubs such as Real Betis and surprise package UE Llagostera, not to mention the rise up the table of CE Sabadell, have been rewarded with the presence of players from their teams in April’s ideal eleven for the division, chosen by the writers at LFP.es.
In goal
There can be few arguments over René Román’s inclusion in goal. The Llagostera keeper, who is in his second consecutive season in the Liga Adelante, enjoyed an exceptional April, conceding no goals in four games played.
The month began with a 0-2 victory over R. Racing C, before three scoreless draws against AD Alcorcón, CD Tenerife and Real Sporting. René has made 110 saves in 28 appearances this term, featuring for a total of 2,520 minutes.
The defence
This month’s Liga Adelante line-up has a three-man defence. Florian Lejeune, Kiko Olivas and Luis Hernández are the trio selected by the LFP.es editorial team for their good work during the period in helping to drive their sides towards their objectives. Lejeune has quickly become the ‘Kaiser’ of the Girona defence, bringing stability to the backline of the Liga Adelante’s second-placed outfit. On April’s final matchday against RC Recreativo, he scored his third goal of the season (and has now moved on to four).
If one man is a fixture at the back for his team, it’s Kiko Olivas. The Sabadell central defender played every minute of his club’s four Liga Adelante fixtures in April and was one of the scorers in their 3-2 triumph over Racing. Sporting’s Luis Hernández completes the defence after featuring in all four of the Asturians’ games (3 draws, 1 win). Alongside Bernardo and Alberto Lora, the youngster is a regular at the back for coach Abelardo Fernández (35 appearances each).
The midfield
Four midfielders – two wide and two in the middle – occupy the centre of the park in April’s all-star eleven: Acorán Barrera of SD Ponferradina, Real Betis’ Dani Ceballos, Alex Granell of Girona FC and D. Alavés man Manu Lanza.
Winger Barrera was ever present for play-off hopefuls Ponferradina last month, also adding two goals that were worth three points to his team. Ceballos, meanwhile, takes his place in the eleven after bursting into the spotlight for Pepe Mel’s side, enjoying an explosive impact in the clash with Barcelona B, scoring one in los verdiblancos’ 1-2 victory.
The foursome in the middle is rounded off by Granell of second-placed Girona, the central midfielder having contributed one of the goals of the season with a memorable effort against RC Recreativo, and Lanza, who was a mainstay for an Alavés outfit who recorded two wins and two defeats in April.
The attack
This month’s forward line was one of the most effective in the division in recent times, and it’s little surprise that two of the men who make up the attack belong to the Liga Adelante’s top two. Jorge Molina’s five goals helped Betis to twelve points from a possible twelve in the last four weeks, and his clinical finishing on each matchday sees him make April’s team of the month.
It’s a similar situation for Fran Sandaza, who has strengthened his spot in Girona’s first-choice eleven month in, month out, and his goals during April saw the team remain in the second automatic promotion berth in the Liga Adelante. And Aníbal Zurdo, who returned to form with two goals, handed Sabadell four points to climb out of the relegation zone.
