The Spanish national team will have a new test on the road towards UEFA EURO 2016 when they visit Belarus in the sixth matchday of European qualification. The side managed by Vicente del Bosque are currently second in Group C, three points behind Slovakia, therefore a victory would serve to put pressure in the fight to lead the section.
The statistics are in the European champions favour as they have won the last three meetings with the Belarusians, the last of which came last November when they won 3-0 in Huelva on Álvaro Morata’s debut with the national team. Moreover, the team managed by Aleksandr Khatskevich have still not managed a victory at home in this European qualifying campaign.
The coach’s view
National team manager Vicente del Bosque, who will reach 100 matches as the boss of Spain, had good words for his next opponent. "Belarus is a side with attacking resources, with fast players on the wings. It will not be an easy game", he said. Del Bosque also had praise for Pedro Rodríguez and Cesc Fàbregas, highlighting the efficiency of the first and the goalscoring prowess of the second.
Spain will prepare for the visit to Borisov with two players suffering from injury. Recent Barcelona signing Aleix Vidal and central defender Gerard Piqué. The winger had to be substituted in the friendly against Costa Rica, whilst the defender has suffered some muscular problems in the last few games. Despite their respective problems, both internationals will travel with the rest of the team.
