Nicolás Otamendi’s 2014/15 season in the Liga BBVA with Valencia CF

• In his first season in Spain, Nicolás Otamendi’s good play, fighting spirit and leadership qualities saw him establish himself as a fans’ favourite at Mestalla. His ability to marshal los valencianistas’ defence led him to be dubbed the 'Otakáiser'.

• He netted six times this term, making him the Liga BBVA’s highest-scoring defender. His sixth goal came on the final day of the league campaign against UD Almería, a strike that brought los blanquinegros level in the match at 1-1 and helped them to clinch a return to the UEFA Champions League.

• He was the most frequently included defender in the season’s monthly Liga BBVA ideal XIs. In September, January, March and May he was chosen by the writers at LFP.es as one of the division’s outstanding performers.
