Real Betis and UD Las Palmas drew 0-0 in one of the fixtures on matchday 8 of the Liga Adelante. Having shared the spoils, the Andalusian club are now sixth with 14 points, while the Canary Islands side drop down from the top spot into third place with 15 points.
Two of the major contenders for promotion this season locked horns, but evenly matched teams and tactical rigour set the tone on the field of play. It was not until the half hour of play that the first chances came for the visiting team. A clearance from Jordi Figueras went awry and hit the Betis post, but Figueras himself reacted quickly to stop Aythami Artiles’ shot from the rebound. An angled strike from Álvaro Cejudo, meanwhile, brushing past the near post, was the best opportunity of the first half for the Verdiblancos.
The hard-fought nature of the game continued in the second half, until Betis had to deal with Damien Perquis’ sending off in the 71st minute. With numerical superiority, Las Palmas pressed hard and looked to score with persistence and daring, but goalkeeper Antonio Adán was determined to keep them out with a fantastic save against Nauzet Alemán. Though Paco Herrera’s team continued to throw themselves into the opposition box until the end, the Verdiblancos were able to save the draw.
