At 17:30 local time the side touched down at Jorge Chávez airport in Lima, Peru. It is Valencia’s second participation in the World Challenge tour, organised by the LFP and ICEX, and they are one of five teams who will represent Spanish football across the world this pre-season. Their first stop is Lima in Peru, where they will play one of their two friendlies on the tour. Nuno’s team take on Alianza Lima on Saturday 26 July, and then face Club Deportivo Universidad Católica at the Estadio San Carlos in Santiago, Chile.
Dani Parjeo, who is one of Valencia’s captains, spoke about his side’s participation in the LFP World Challenge tour upon arriving at Lima airport. "It’s the first time that we go to Peru, and we are looking forward to the game" said the Madrid-born player. Parejo was also please with the welcome the side got from fans at their Hotel Westin: "This shows that Valencia are one of the Liga de Fútbol Profesional’s most important clubs".
With many new faces in the side, including Nicolás Otamendi, Rodrigo de Paul, Andre Gomes and manager Nuno Espirito Santo, the Spanish side will continue their preparations for 2014/15 in Peru and Chile, having completed the first part of their pre-season in Germany.
