The new season of LALIGA EA SPORTS is about to begin, and the three new clubs who enter Spanish football’s top tier for 2024/25 are CD Leganés, Real Valladolid and RCD Espanyol. They each earned promotion last season via a tough and competitive LALIGA HYPERMOTION. They were strong throughout the campaign, consistently inside the top five or six places, and then achieved their objective just before the summer.
CD Leganés
Los Pepineros come up as champions of LALIGA HYPERMOTION, and they led the competition in 30 of the 42 matchdays. That consistency means they’ve earned a fifth ever season in LALIGA EA SPORTS, after previously being in the top tier between 2016 and 2020. Now, four years on, they’re back at the top level of Spanish football, arriving with ambition and enthusiasm. They’ll aim to consolidate the project that started two seasons ago with the arrival of the new ownership in Blue Crow Sports.
Borja Jiménez, who will be the third youngest coach in the division and who has managed to bring the whole squad together to create a very solid unit, will be their coach this coming season. His aim is to maintain a solid block in the back line, while the arrival of Juan Soriano in goals should contribute to that, even though Diego Conde has left. Meanwhile, Valentín Roser has joined and Enric Franquesa and Sergio González are staying.
In attack, CD Leganés will hope to make the most of whatever chances they create, and they have some talented players going forward following the signing of Roberto López and the decisions of Dani Raba and Juan Cruz to stay. In the front line, they’ll look to Diego García and Miguel De La Fuente, who scored 12 and 13 goals respectively last season and who will hope to thrive at this higher level.
Real Valladolid
Just one year after being relegated from LALIGA EA SPORTS, Real Valladolid finished in second position in LALIGA HYPERMOTION to secure an immediate return. They were strong during the final sprint, finishing the season in good form. This term, they’ll hope to break the recent cycle of promotions and relegations by remaining in the top tier for more than just a brief stay.
This season, like CD Leganés, they are looking to consolidate their project and become a LALIGA EA SPORTS regular. To do so, they’ll hope to build a strong defence, with the arrivals of Eray Cömert and João Vitor Miranda, who will join Enzo Boyomo and Javi Sánchez in the back line, forming a solid central defence. In midfield, Víctor Messeguer is set to stay and they have also signed Stanko Juric, while Iván Sánchez can drive the team forward.
In attack, Los Blanquivioletas have some big names, such as Darwin Machís, Amath Ndiaye and, one of their most expensive signings in history, Stipe Biuk. They hope he can form a lethal partnership with Mamadou Sylla, who was a key player as they won promotion.
RCD Espanyol
RCD Espanyol achieved promotion via the playoffs after finishing fourth in the second tier. They had some ups and downs, going through three coaches, but they never gave up and progressed through the playoffs to return to LALIGA EA SPORTS, defeating Real Oviedo and Real Sporting.
For this season, they hope to reestablish themselves in LALIGA EA SPORTS. Historically, they have almost always been a top-tier club, as this will be their 88th season in the top flight. They are tied with Atlético de Madrid for the most seasons spent in the highest league in Spanish football.
In terms of their way of playing, they tend to be an attacking team, looking to enter the opposition half and dominate the game. They have a solid spine, with goalkeepers Joan García and Fernando Pacheco as options, with Fernando Calero and Leandro Cabrera staying in defence, with Álvaro Tejero and Carlos Romero arriving as full-backs, with Álvaro Aguado in midfield and with José Graguera and Edu Expósito accompanying him.
In attack, Javi Puado and Pere Milla remain and they’ve also signed Max Svensson, who’ll look to add extra goals for Los Pericos. After Puado had such a good season last term, it’ll be thrilling to see what he can do in LALIGA EA SPORTS this year.
