Fact of the week

With Bellingham out, Real Madrid will have to react

Jude Bellingham is a massive player for Real Madrid, and not just because of his goals. He boasts the second-most actions at over 21 km/h in the division. This intensity allows him to bring his power to bear on a range of metrics in which he features among the top spots. He is first for goals, and also first for goals under pressure, among the top three for high-impact actions, the top five for shots and is second on expected goals. And let us not forget that he also creates chances for his teammates, as the player who plays the most passes in the final third. Unquestionably, his abilities give Carlo Ancelotti's team a significant boost in a number of different areas.

Key Player

Ante Budimir is more than just a goalscorer

He is the fourth-highest goalscorer in LALIGA EA Sports, on 11 goals, level with Antoine Griezmann. However, if we analyse his role in the team, we can draw some notable conclusions. He is Osasuna’s top scorer, the player with the most attacking high-impact actions and the one with the most shots on target. He is also among the top three players on his team for actions at over 24 km/h and the player who dribbles the most under pressure.

These stats take on even greater importance when we note that, for many of them, there is a significant drop-off between him and the rest of his teammates. In other words, he tops the metrics by some distance.

The Match up

A high-intensity clash

Both coaches know that taking their teams to the top is not just a question of quality on the ball. They also need physicality. As we can see in the radar chart, the two sides present similar levels, with respect to the maximum for LALIGA, on a number of metrics. However, if we dig into the small differences which exist, we can see that Girona come out on top on effectiveness, both in terms of finishing and attack-building. Athletic, meanwhile, just pip Girona on shots, high-intensity actions and recovery height. There is no question that a brilliant match awaits us between two high-flying outfits.

Remember his name

Sevilla have a name to pin their hopes on: Isaac

The recent victory over Atletico Madrid allowed Quique Sanchez Flores’s men to believe that they can bounce back. Clearly, the goalscorer, Isaac, is helping his team on the attacking front – an area where they were really struggling. He has netted five goals in eight games, and his work both on and off the ball has become instrumental in the team’s play. The youngster has now taken the fifth-most shots for Sevilla, he is the player with the fourth-most carries into the box, and is fourth on expected goals for his team.

His youth and enthusiasm are backed up by the stats and a fine turn of form.

Metric of the week

Long passes

These are passes spanning over 30 metres in length. When we assess possessions, it is important not only to know how many passes are made, but also – among other things – their location and length. Thanks to the information which we have on these actions, one of the things that we can identify is which teams play direct football. Getafe undoubtedly fall into this category, having played the most long passes in LALIGA. Although they have a low number of possessions, their directness helps them to progress their attacking play.
