Vero Boquete

At just 18 Veronica Boquete Giadans (Santiago de Compostela, 1987) was already making quite
an impression on Spain's Primera Division Femenina with her eye-catching displays for Prainsa Zaragoza.

After three seasons in Zaragoza, Espanyol made their move for the talented forward and the Galician went on to spend two seasons in Catalonia (2008-2010). During her time at Espanyol, Boquete tasted Copa de la Reina glory on two occasions and her excellent form started to attract attention from suitors outside of Spain.

The summer of 2010 saw the girl who had taken her first steps in the game with Xuventu Aguiño make the move across the Atlantic to try her luck in America's National Women's Soccer League (NWLS) with the Chicago Red Stars (although she was subsequently sent out on loan to Buffalo Flash).

During the course of the same season (2010-2012),the Santiago de Compostela-born star returned to grace the Primera Division Feminina with Espanyol. On the back of a tremendous year in Spain, the WPS once again came calling, with Boquete this time signing for Philadelpia. In 2011, the Spain international scooped the Player of the Year award in recognition of her performances at her new club.

In September 2011 Boquete was once again on the move, this time checking in to the Russian league with Energy Voronezh. However, it was only after 2012 that Boquete really started to shine. In January 2012 she signed for the Swedish outfit, Tyresö, where she won a domestic trophy and reached the Champions League final. She spent two years in Sweden before once again packing her bags and heading off to the NWLS where she would turn out for the then-reigning champions, Portland Thorns. Since then she has turned out for FCC Frankfurt, Bayern Munich, PSG, Beijing Phoenix and the Utah Royals FC The much-travelled Boquete also has the distinction of being the only Spanish player to have been nominated for the Ballon d'Or.
