Former RC Celta player Borja Oubiña has been officially named a LaLiga Santander Legend. As such, the player from Vigo becomes part of the "Ambassadors and Legends of LaLiga" programme, a unique initiative launched in 2014 that has brought together more than 30 iconic players from LaLiga Santander clubs to represent the values of the competition and promote it around the world. Director of the project, Fernando Sanz, welcomed the select members of the team at a ceremony at the LaLiga headquarters where they were presented with a T-shirt that recognises the members of the programme.

"Borja Oubiña is a very special addition to the Legends of LaLiga Santander because of the values he embodies, which are aligned with those of LaLiga: spirit of achievement, passion and commitment. His trajectory from the club's youth ranks to the Technical Department has made him a valuable figure, as well as a symbol of the emotion that unites the fans with their teams," says Fernando Sanz.

Oubiña was an RC Celta player for 12 seasons, including the only season that the club competed in the Champions League (2003-04) and also the historic 2005-06 season, where he was one of the instrumental players in the club achieving one of its best ever positions, achieving sixth place which qualified the club to play in the UEFA Cup (now the Europa League). He was also central to the team that secured the club's last promotion to LaLiga Santander in the 2011-12 season. Since then, the club has not been relegated again: the 2021-22 season is their 11th campaign in a row in the top flight. Having retired in 2015, he has been a member of RC Celta's Technical Department ever since.

"It's an honour to be part of the LaLiga Legends team and I am especially proud to do it on behalf of both my hometown club and my birthplace. Above all, our youth policy, which I had the good fortune of experiencing in my career as a boy who joined the club at the age of 13.  To see myself alongside such important players is a source of pride," says Borja Oubiña, new LaLiga Santander Legend.

The midfielder from Vigo is a product of the club's youth academy and an example of the club's continued commitment to the youth ranks: RC Celta is among the three teams that used the most youth players last season from the 5 big European leagues, along with Athletic Club and Real Sociedad, according to data from the CIES Observatory.
