After the last day of the Round of 32 in the Copa del Rey, the teams that have earned a ticket to the next stage of the tournament are now known, and all of them are Liga BBVA clubs, something that has not happened since the 2007/08 season. Atlético Madrid, Elche CF, Athletic Club and Málaga CF were the latest to quality.
There was plenty of excitement in the match between the Rojiblancos and CE L'Hospitalet. The 0-3 first leg gave Diego Simeone's men the advantage, but the Catalan side pulled out all the stops to draw 2-2 and set the stadium alight in a knock-out stage that Atlético nonetheless won.
Elche and R. Valladolid also featured in an open clash that ended well for the Ilicitanos thanks to an early goal from Adrián González. The goalless draw in the first leg and 1-0 in the second condemned the Blanquivioletas to defeat and put Fran Escribá's men through to the Round of 16.
In the last fixtures of the night, it was Athletic and Málaga who had to dig deep to secure their pass to the next round. After the 1-1 draw between CD Alcoyano and Athletic in their first encounter, the Bilbao side qualified after winning 1-0 at the San Mamés. The Andalusians, meanwhile, with a brace from Roque Santa Cruz and goals from Hélder Postiga and Recio, defeated RC Deportivo 4-1 to claim their ticket to the next round. A round that will feature a full house of 16 teams from the Liga BBVA.
