Madrid starts the year with a bang. Getafe CF and Rayo Vallecano will fight it out in the derby on matchday 17 of Liga BBVA, with both sides level on points in the table in 12th and 13th, and looking for a win that would give them the local bragging rights.
Team news
With the news that Ángel Lafita will be out for six months with a knee problem, and duo Babá Diawará and Míchel Herrera also missing, Cosmin Contra does have some good news in the return of Sergio Escudero. Rayo's lack of options at centre back is again telling in this game, with Abdoulaye Ba their only central defender fit and ready to play, while goalkeeper Toño and Javier Aquino also return to the fold.
View from the dugouts
"We want to win the game because it means three points after three draws in a row", said Cosmin Contra. The home side's coach seemed confident that his side will take something from the game, saying they "deserve a win". Paco Jémez, meanwhile, has studied Getafe closely, and assessed them as "a side with a good squad that is organised. They aren't the kind of side to just wait for us to make mistakes and play on the counter".
