Liga BBVA was the highest scoring of the major European leagues over the weekend, with more goals than the Premier League, Bundesliga and Serie A. Fans enjoyed a total of 42 goals over the weekend, and it made round 14 the highest scoring weekend of the season so far.

Club Atlético de Madrid were the top scorers with seven as they hammered Getafe CF, including a magical overhead kick from Diego Costa. Real Madrid won 0-5 away to UD Almería, whilst FC Barcelona, RCD Espanyol and Real Sociedad all scored four.

Sociedad's Carlos Vela was the top individual scorer, grabbing all four of his team's goals in their outstanding comeback against RC Celta de Vigo. The Mexican scored three in 19 minutes to give the victory to the Anoeta outfit.

Villarreal CF, Rayo Vallecano, Elche CF, Valencia CF, Sevilla FC, Málaga CF, Athletic Club and CA Osasuna, who scored a total of 17 goals between them, complete the list. Liga BBVA wasn't the only league where goals were scored. Liga Adelante demonstrated the strength of Spanish football with 25 goals, Real Sporting de Gijón, CD Mirandés and Hércules CF top scoring.
