The headquarters of the Liga de Fútbol Profesional enjoyed one of its most moving days with the presentation of the funds raised in the second edition of the Champions for Life match, which was held on 29 December last year.

Juan José Hidalgo, president of the Fundacióndel Fútbol Profesional, welcomed all of the guests to an event which, he stated, "attests to what the Fundación truly is all about. It’s a source of satisfaction for me as president and we’re not going to stop doing things".

The charity match, organised together with UNICEF, also helped in the fight against ebola in Africa. Carmelo Angulo, president of the Spanish UNICEF Committee, underlined that "19 million people are under threat. We’re pleased to be able to make this humble contribution to such a huge challenge".

One of the projects selected by the FFP at the proposal of Club Atlético de Madrid is Harambee. For Mercedes Montoro, representative of an NGO that promotes educational initiatives in Africa, "education is the most beautiful weapon with which to change the world". Adelardo Rodríguez, president of the Fundación Atlético de Madrid, highlighted the "noteworthy efforts of La Liga with the clubs' foundations".

Courtesy o fLevante UD, the shelter Nova Esperança in Mozambique will be able to continue helping young orphans to be educated through football. "This solidarity movement knows no borders", insisted father Custodio Luis Cardoso. According to the director of the Fundación Levante UD’s social department, "we're a humble club but football is a powerful tool with which to put smiles on faces".

In Ciudad Darío, the children at the football school shout for Osasuna. "We remove them from situations of conflict in their surrounding environment through education", explained Luis Vitallé, deputy director of the Fundación Juan Bonal. "The Proyecto Social Nicaragua shows that you can reach very important goals through football", underlined Fidel Medrano, representative of the Fundación Osasuna.

Emilio Butragueño, director of institutional relations at Real Madrid, highlighted that the club "tries to give back to society the support it offers to us, through projects in more than 70 countries". One of which is the Socio-sporting School in Madagascar. "We work with education as the focal point, a holistic education, offering opportunities thanks to the values of sport", stressed Eva Rodríguez, manager at the Fundación Agua de Coco.

Support for slums comes from the Educar en la calle cultural and social association, whose director, Jorge Morillo, could not hide his satisfaction "at being able to educate children at a high risk of social exclusion through football". This project is supported by the Fundación del Fútbol Profesional. The president of the LFP, Javier Tebas, brought the event to a close with a reminder that "the doors of La Liga and the Fundación are open". "For us, collaborating is no effort at all because it is part of the DNA of every club. We have a duty to show solidarity through effort and sacrifice".

The event concluded with the symbolic handover of five cheques for the funds raised in the second edition of the charity match Champions for Life.
