The derby between Real Madrid CF and Club Atlético de Madrid on Saturday at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium will be loaded with rivalry and excitement in every part of the field. From the goalmouth to the point of attack. Join us for a review of the statistics on the key men who will guard the goals of the two teams in this important fixture.

Iker Casillas, the veteran goalkeeper

29 derbies and a long résumé which includes 16 seasons leading the Whites. That, and the fact that Iker Casillas has only lost one match against Atlético as a starting keeper (21 wins and seven draws). It was just three weeks ago, in the Supercopa de España, and now he goes into the game ready to get his own back.

Iker Casillas has only lost one match against Atlético as a starting keeper

Last season he kept goal for Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League, but played just two games in the Liga BBVA at the end of season in which he conceded two goals. This season he has let in four goals and on Saturday, against the champions, he will attempt to keep a clean sheet to give his team an extra boost.

Miguel Ángel Moyá, dreaming of breaking records

Though he joined Diego Pablo Simeone’s squad this summer, the goalkeeper only needed four pre-season games to convince his new manager. After spells at RCD Mallorca (2004/09), Valencia CF (2009/11) and Getafe (2011/14), Moyá is hoping to beat all his records and continue to make history at Atlético, where, for now, he has conceded one goal in two games. Last season, with the Azulones, his stats were 40 goals in 26 encounters.

A new wardrobe

New faces have become a regular feature between the goalposts in both teams. Keylor Navas and Jan Oblak have arrived in the Spanish capital to don their gloves and play for Real Madrid and Atlético from the goal-line.

Moyá is hoping to beat all his records and continue to make history at Atlético

The Costa Rican, taking over from Diego López, arrived amid the expectation generated by his great season with Levante UD and his performance for his national team in the FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The 39 goals he conceded in the 36 games he played in the Liga BBVA last season made him the fourth most successful goalkeeper in the championships and now he will hope to repeat the feat wearing white.

Jan Oblak, meanwhile, will aspire for great things at the Vicente Calderón, where he has yet to play due to injury and good performances from Moyá. The Slovenian arrived to replace Thibaut Courtois, who had the best stats for a goalkeeper at the Rojiblanco club in recent years. Oblak will fight to better his predecessor’s figures and become a player known for his invincibility. He did it at Benfica SL, where he was given plenty of game time and in 28 matches conceded 8 goals in all competitions. Emotion and a fighting spirit are guaranteed.
