Sergio v Areola
One of the most interesting individual battles in the match came between the sticks. Both goalies were soon called into action at Balaidos. First up was Sergio Alvarez, who showcased is outstanding reflexes a quarter of an hour in. Less than five minutes later, it was Alphonse Areola's turn up the other end. This was a harbinger of things to come throughout the encounter, with either side managing to find a way past the men in gloves.
Pinball in the box
Areola, Eric Bailly, John Guidetti... RC Celta and Villarreal CF players alike were embroiled in a scramble in which the ball didn't seem to want to leave the visitors' six-yard box. However, just like in the rest of the game, no goal was forthcoming.
Nolito's Balaidos reunion
The Spain international made his comeback last matchday, pulling on the sky-blue shirt again at the Coliseum. He started on the bench, but climbed off it to secure three points for Celta. Eduardo Berizzo rewarded him with a place in the starting line-up at home to Villarreal, giving the Balaidos faithful the chance to savour watching Iago Aspas, Fabian Orellana and Nolito reunited on the pitch for a full match, with Guidetti leading the line ahead of them. They went for it, but just couldn't get the breakthrough.
Villarreal, 14 games unbeaten
The Yellow Submarine's excellent run continues. They have now gone 14 Liga BBVA matches without losing, their last league defeat having come at the Coliseum. Anoeta, Riazor, the RCDE Stadium, San Mames, the Calderon and now Balaidos have all witnessed Villarreal take away at least a point.
