The Brazilian footballer 'Rafinha' Alcántara has been awarded the prize for '2013-14 Liga BBVA Breakthrough Player' in the '2014 LFP Awards Ceremony', ahead of Jesé Rodríguez and Saúl Ñíguez, following an outstanding campaign at RC Celta.
A spectacular season in which he exceeded all expectations earned him the prize. The ability he showed made him a key component of the powerful Vigo attack, which scored 49 goals: four of them were his own and he contributed to most of the others.
The quality of his left boot is well known in the FC Barcelona academy, where he grew as a person and as a player, and where he matured as a footballer. His spell at Celta has enabled him to demonstrate his vision, intelligence and technique on the field in a side where this gem that had been gradually developing at La Masía finally emerged.
The direct football he demonstrated with his crosses from the right flank made him a key part of the strategy of his boss, Luis Enrique, a manager who used him for 2,539 minutes of play in 32 of the 38 Liga BBVA fixtures. The brilliance of his performances and incisive runs made him vital to the effectiveness of the spectacular Celta attack that impressed so much in the 2013-14 season.
"I want to thank my teammates and my family, and especially my brother I sent him all my strength, and I'm sure he will come out of this stronger", said Rafinha, former RC Celta player.
