Málaga rewarded for their resilience

A great performance from Willy Caballero coupled with some poor finishing left the home team goalless against a Málaga who won in the El Sadar despite being a man down.

Málaga CF beat CA Osasuna 2-0 in the penultimate clash of Liga BBVA matchday 27. The Andalusians have found some breathing space in the table while the team from Navarre now have an uphill struggle to salvation.

The match started with two great chances for Osasuna. First a shot from Oriol Riera kissed the crossbar on its way over and a minute later Willy Caballero made a stunning save to make sure the home side did not take the lead. From that moment, Málaga took control of the game and in the 16th minute Samuel scored the first goal of the match. Nourredine Amrabat penetrated the box and his cross found Samuel, who managed to punt the ball beyond the reach of Andrés Fernández and into the net.

Osasuna could have equalised, but Caballero came to the rescue, with a little help from the post, on two consecutive occasions, with shots from Roberto Torres and Jordan Lotiès before the break. After the restart, Málaga were a man down but their search for a cushion did not waver. Just when it looked like the home team might draw level, Amrabat won the ball back, combined with Roque Santa Cruz and scored the second by tucking the ball neatly inside the post. Chances kept falling to the rojillos until the final whistle, but a lack of accuracy and a superb Willy Caballero prevented Javi Gracia's men from getting their prize.
