Luis Enrique, a tricky visitor

The Santiago Bernabéu hosts an old foe in its first match of the year. Luis Enrique, RC Celta de Vigo's current manager, played for Real Madrid CF between 1991 and 1996, and finished his playing career at FC Barcelona, the team he signed for in the summer of 1996.

Ten years after his last visit to the Whites' fortress (on the 25th of April 2004), the Asturian will be back on the visitors bench, this time as a manager. He did the same nine times as a player, but they came during a different era at Barça. Of all his visits to what used to be his home ground, Luis Enrique only lost two matches, (2-0 in the 1996/97 season, and 3-0 in that of 1999/00) and he scored two goals in the shirt of Madrid's nemesis.

With Real Madrid he won one Liga BBVA title, the Copa del Rey and a Supercup of Spain, as well as scoring 23 goals in all competitions. But his most fruitful years came at Barcelona, where he also wore the captain's armband.

He added two Liga BBVAs, two Copa del Reys, a Supercup of Spain and two European titles to his trophy cabinet during his time with the Blaugrana. Now, at the helm of Celta and in the Bernabéu, Luis Enrique will hope to add to his impressive record.
