For the fifth year in a row, the Liga BBVA has been named as the most important league in the world by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), finishing above other top leagues such as the Italian Serie A, the English Premier League, the Argentine Primera División and the German Bundesliga.
The IFFHS has been annually ranking the most powerful competition in the world since 1991 based on objective indicators and statistics on players, teams and points totals. In 2014 the outstanding European campaigns of Real Madrid CF, Sevilla FC and Atlético Madrid, as well as the impressive numbers of FC Barcelona, have tipped the balance in favour of the Liga BBVA for a fifth consecutive year,
The Liga BBVA accumulated 1,259 points in 2014, compared to the 998 points of the second place league, the Italian Serie A. Next was the Premier League, which slipped down to third place with 958 points. This is the ninth time the Liga BBVA has won this prestigious title, also being named top league by the IFFHS in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004.
