Club Atlético de Madrid continued its spectacular and record-breaking start to the Liga BBVA, and stays level with FC Barcelona at the top of the table. Meanwhile, Getafe CF and Sevilla CF have started to make up some ground after an indifferent start to the season. For their part, Athletic Club and Valencia CF drew 1-1 in a very tight match.

Diego Costa, the league's top goal-scorer having found the net ten times, was once again a key player for Atlético who had to work hard for their victory over RC Celta de Vigo in Sunday's early game. The Red and Whites, who like Barcelona have won all their matches so far, came face to face with Celta's human wall of a goalkeeper, Yoel, and Nolito's late goal gave the team from Vigo the belief that it could take a point away from Atlético which eventually did not materialise.

For the first time in its history, the new San Mamés Stadium did not witness a home win for Athletic, who drew with Valencia in a fast-flowing match. The first half belonged to the Valencians, who went into the break with a lead after Éver Banega's penalty. However, things changed in the second half and Mikel Rico's goal earned the Basque outfit a well-deserved draw. The result means that Athletic, which had won its first two matches in the new stadium, drops its first points to Valencia whose run of three consecutive league victories was cut short.

Getafe now occupies a European spot after beating Real Betis Balompié with an exceptional performance from Pedro León and a great first half, which the team ended 3-0 ahead. Although Betis managed to spare its blushes with a goal in the second half, the team from Madrid eventually strolled to its third consecutive victory and fourth from the last five matches against a Betis which has had a slow start to the season.

Luck is still not on the side a UD Almería which, although it was not going to take its first victory of the season, saw Sevilla steal its point with a last minute goal from Ivan Rakitić. In a match in which both teams had their chances to win, it was the Croat's header that alleviated Sevilla's relegation worries and left Almería with a measly three points.
