Fact of the week

Joselu shines as creative powerhouse

Joselu sits alongside Jude Bellingham at the very top of the LaLiga charts for attempts on goal, averaging almost two and a half per match. He is proving to be instrumental to Real Madrid in terms of his goals, but he is also excelling when it comes to creating chances and space for teammates when out of possession. The latest weekly clip features his goal against Osasuna.

His strike against the Navarran outfit brings his tally for the season to five, a return that places him amongst the league’s top scorers, behind Bellingham and Antoine Griezmann and alongside Robert Lewandoski, Alvaro Morata and Bryan Zaragoza. The Spanish hitman once again got his name on the scoresheet in a game in which he started to make it five goals in five starts.

Remarkable Coach

Barcelona’s possession-based game is just the ticket

In this week’s Standout Coach section, we shine the spotlight on Xavi and his team’s attacking build-up play, focusing particularly on the length of their possessions. The Catalan giants record the highest number of passes per possession, chalking up an impressive 6.8. They are followed by Real Madrid (6.42), while Las Palmas claim the final podium place, with 5.6. The Azulgranas are also top of the class when it comes to long possessions, which account for almost 30% of their possessions. The graphic shows a passing sequence following a long spell of possession that culminated in a goal.

The Camp Nou-based outfit’s possessions are reaping their rewards in the final third, both in terms of the creation of chances and finishing, with Barça featuring amongst the top-five performing teams in LALIGA in both areas. Xavi’s troops manage to reach the final third in virtually one in every five of their phases of possession, which sees them rank third in terms of the efficiency of their build-up play.

Key Player

So much more to Vinicius’s game than pace

Vinicius has posted 8.3 actions at over 24km/hr per outing so far this season. There is no question that the Brazilian speedster plays the game at great intensity, but we want to highlight what he does in possession and we do so in the following graphic. His direct approach and presence on the wing result in him playing a key role in progressing play for Real Madrid. His high-impact actions serve to break opposition lines and allow his team to gain advantages that help to create chances.

The Match up

LALIGA prepares for record-breaking ELCLASICO stats-fest

The eagerly anticipated ELCLASICO showdown will feature a whole host of novelties in terms of the graphs and statistics served up for viewers during the broadcast. The two rivals are excelling in a number of areas so far this term. As we can see in the video, Real Madrid are making their mark in high-impact carries, where they sit at the top of the pile. In the radar chart that compares the Matchday 11 opponents, we can see how evenly matched they are when it comes to creating and converting chances.

Remember his name

Surprise-package Guiu is the real deal

The fresh-faced Barcelona ace scored a record-breaking goal just seconds after entering the fray against Athletic Club. He was only on the pitch for 11 minutes, and he managed to find the net with his only attempt on goal. As a result, his shot conversion rate is 100%, although it is worth stressing that this is an isolated statistic that will gain more significance once he gets more minutes under his belt. Regardless of that, he’s yet another bright young thing who is exciting the Camp Nou faithful and adds to the long list of youthful stars at Xavi’s disposal.
