The Portuguese forward joined Atlético Madrid in 1987 after a successful spell at FC Porto in his native country. In the space of only five seasons at the Vicente Calderón he became a true club legend for the Atlético faithful and his goals helped the club to win two Copa del Rey trophies and to finish as runners-up in the LaLiga Santander. He left Atlético in 1993 to go back to his country, but then returned to the club once again towards the end of his career for one more season before seeing out his playing days in Japan.
