Playing in the world's biggest club football fixture, Gary Lineker scored an El Clásico hat trick, as FC Barcelona famously saw off Real Madrid 3-2 at Camp Nou. Such a memorable performance came in his first season in LaLiga, following his transfer from Everton after the 1986 World Cup.
The Leicester-born forward landed the World Cup golden boot in Mexico - scoring 6 goals for England, who were defeated at the quarter-final stage by Diego Maradona's Argentina.
Gary scored a goal almost every two matches during three years with Barça, winning Copa del Rey and European Cup Winners' Cup titles, and learning to speak Spanish fluently.
Since hanging up his boots, Lineker has become the most recognisable face in global sports broadcasting - hosting legendary English football program 'Match of the Day', alongside live coverage of the UEFA Champions League and European Championship and FIFA World Cup.
