The CSD joins the LFP’s fight against illegal gambling

Miguel Cardenal took part in a discussion about sport in the Information Sciences Faculty in the Complutense University in Madrid. The Spanish Sports Minister announced the CSD’s (Sports Council) plans to reform the current law in order to fight against the match-fixing problem, an action that will form part of the Liga de Fútbol Profesional’s efforts to detect and prevent this type of fraud in football.

The CSD president declared "the current legislation is clearly insufficient " and added that "the problem is that there could have been match-fixing this week in the female Superliga or in the second division because it is such a lucrative practice within betting circles".
The Spanish Sports Minister wants to increase the amount of surveillance on sporting fraud in order to fight against the match-fixing epidemic, with the plan being to follow the example set by the Liga de Fútbol Profesional, which has created a department to detect possible fraudulent behaviour.

Cardenal spoke of his plans to make an international pact within the European Council on the subject of illegal gambling. "This is not just a problem in Spain, but we cannot think that we are immune to it", the president declared, who described the situation as "an illness with devastating effects".
