Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) and LALIGA signed a Collaboration Agreement (Agreement) on 9 March to strengthen cooperation in talent development and international exchange within the sports sector. The Agreement was signed by Prof. Alan Au Kai-ming, Vice President (Strategic Initiatives) of HKMU, and Mr Sergi Torrents, Managing Director of LALIGA Greater China.

Under this partnership, LALIGA Business School, the educational department of LALIGA, will curate a specialised executive programme LALIGA Week for students enrolled in HKMU’s newly launched Master of Professional Management in Global Sports Business (MPMGSB). Students will have the opportunity to participate in an intensive two‑week programme in Spain, travelling across Madrid, Seville, and Barcelona to visit leading sports and entertainment organisations, attend exclusive sports events, and engage with senior leaders from LALIGA and member clubs. Upon successful completion, students will earn academic credits towards their HKMU master’s degree as well as two certifications from LALIGA Business Schoolin Sports Marketing and Communication and in Sponsorship and Strategic Alliances

In line with our mission as a university of applied sciences, HKMU is actively expanding into executive education to facilitate continuous improvement and talent enhancement across key industries,” said Prof. Au during his address at the signing ceremony. This makes our new master’s programme a highly timely collaboration. We are deeply grateful for LALIGA’s steadfast support over the years, which remains essential to our goal of delivering practice-oriented education with tangible, real-world impact.

Mr Torrents said, “This agreement reflects LALIGA’s long-term commitment to talent development and education in the region. Executive education plays a decisive role in preparing leaders who can operate in an increasingly global, digital and competitive sports industry. We are proud to collaborate with Hong Kong Metropolitan University, a highly respected institution with a strong academic reputation and a clear applied focus, to deliver a programme that combines academic excellence with the practical expertise of LALIGA and our clubs. Together, we aim to equip the next generation of sports business professionals with the strategic vision and industry insight required to drive the sector forward.”

LALIGA has been a valued, long‑term partner of HKMU since 2020. Over the years, the organisation has supported the HKMU Business School by providing students with access to industry seminars, workshops, and networking events that deepen their understanding of global sports business dynamics. LALIGA has also hosted HKMU undergraduates on study tours to Spain offering first-hand exposure to Spanish culture alongside practical insights into modern sports marketing, event management, and branding. The new Agreement further consolidates this partnership and opens new pathways for HKMU and LALIGA to jointly promote executive education and cultivate talent for the global sports sector.
