• A leader at the back for FC Barcelona, he was one of the chief reasons why the Catalan outfit were the best defensive side in the 2014/15 Liga BBVA, conceding just 19 goals. Among his stand-out performances was the matchday 28 clash with Real Madrid, with the centre back an impenetrable barrier during los blancos’ best moments.

• In attack, los azulgranas’ defender enjoyed his finest ever season in front of goal. He scored five times in the course of the league campaign to set a new personal best, proving one of Luis Enrique’s key players in set-piece situations.

This enabled him to reach 310 appearances in all competitions for Barça, in the process overtaking the tallies of club legends such as Estanislao Basora, Albert Ferrer and even his current boss.
