FC Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has been named the LaLiga Santander Player of the Month for April in recognition of his outstanding performances over the course of a marathon month featuring no fewer than seven matchdays. The Argentine's abundant quality shone through for Luis Enrique's side and he contributed no shortage of goals and assists to the Azulgranas cause.
Messi is enjoying yet another sensational season and was in talismanic form again in April. The Rosario-born ace notched up eight goals in the shape of four braces, including a match-winning double in #ElClasico, the headline fixture of LaLiga Santander Matchday 33. However, the 29-year-old is not just a goal machine: he is also a key creative force for Barça, as attested to by his tally of three assists across the month.
This accolade – which is awarded by Santander, the competition's main sponsor, and voted for by the LaLiga.es writers – was presented by Luis Herrero Borque, Head of the Cataluña Office.
