Atlético Madrid and Valencia CF played out a 1-1 draw in Sunday's final fixture on matchday 26 of the Liga BBVA. Koke and Shkodran Mustafi scored their teams’ goals, both from dead-ball situations.
The opening stages of the encounter were plagued by imprecision from both sides. Valencia sought to keep the ball under their spell while Atlético looked to put together play to hurt their guests, but neither outfit proved capable of creating danger in attack – except for the only goal of the half, Koke opening the scoring after Fernando Torres had headed on.
In an absorbing second half, Tiago could have doubled his side’s lead but saw his effort hit Diego Alves’s crossbar, in a moment that proved crucial to the outcome of the game. Still alive, Valencia gave it everything in search of the equaliser, and found it when Mustafi took advantage of a loose ball in the six-yard box. Los chés' leveller saw the match turn into an end-to-end affair, but neither team was able to tip the balance and the spoils from an exciting clash were shared.
